Believing the Impossible, part II

More Liberal "brain" exercise:

You must simultaneously believe:

That states passing laws to enforce existing federal immigration law violates Federal supremacy

AND

Sanctuary cities and counties that ignore immigration law, and refuse to cooperate with ICE, do not violate federal supremacy.

Update, Feb 17, 2012:

This form of "believing the impossible" has a special name given to it  by George Orwell: Doublethink:

To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget, whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself -- that was the ultimate subtlety; consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word 'doublethink' involved the use of doublethink.

The evil involved is considerable.

And so is the mental effort.

This level of Liberalism requires an "Intellectual" - demonstrating, with stark clarity, the difference between "smart" and "wise".

KafkaTrapping - "Subconscious Racism"

On a forum I no longer visit, a black woman attributed opposition to Obama to:

deep ceded (sic) racism that appears to be at a subconscious level for some white people in this country, especially older white men.
I'll ignore hereafter that the woman committed both ageism and sexism in her bogus accusation.

I immediately understood the inherent, vicious, evil in the argument attributing political beliefs and actions to "subconscious racism", as noted briefly here.

However, I subsequently found a much better description - and dismantling - of this flawed type of "argument" by Eric S. Raymond here:

Kafkatrapping

Significant excerpts:

One very notable pathology is a form of argument that, reduced to essence, runs like this: “Your refusal to acknowledge that you are guilty of {sin, racism, sexism, homophobia, oppression…} confirms that you are guilty of {sin, racism, sexism, homophobia, oppression…}.” I’ve been presented with enough instances of this recently that I’ve decided that it needs a name. I call this general style of argument “kafkatrapping”, and the above the Model A kafkatrap. In this essay, I will show that the kafkatrap is a form of argument that is so fallacious and manipulative that those subjected to it are entitled to reject it based entirely on the form of the argument, without reference to whatever particular sin or thoughtcrime is being alleged. I will also attempt to show that kafkatrapping is so self-destructive to the causes that employ it that change activists should root it out of their own speech and thoughts.

My reference, of course, is to Franz Kafka’s “The Trial”, in which the protagonist Josef K. is accused of crimes the nature of which are never actually specified, and enmeshed in a process designed to degrade, humiliate, and destroy him whether or not he has in fact committed any crime at all. The only way out of the trap is for him to acquiesce in his own destruction; indeed, forcing him to that point of acquiescence and the collapse of his will to live as a free human being seems to be the only point of the process, if it has one at all.

This is almost exactly the way the kafkatrap operates in religious and political argument.
...
It is essential to the operation of all three of the variants of the kafkatrap so far described that the subject’s attention be deflected away from the fact that no wrongdoing by the subject, about which the subject need feel personally guilty, has actually been specified. The kafkatrapper’s objective is to hook into chronic self-doubt in the subject and inflate it, in much the same way an emotional abuser convinces a victim that the abuse is deserved – in fact, the mechanism is identical.
...
Having shown how manipulative and psychologically abusive the kafkatrap is, it may seem almost superfluous to observe that it is logically fallacious as well. The particular species of fallacy is sometimes called “panchreston”, an argument from which anything can be deduced because it is not falsifiable. Notably, if the model A kafkatrap is true, the world is divided into two kinds of people: (a) those who admit they are guilty of thoughtcrime, and (b) those who are guilty of thoughtcrime because they will not admit to being guilty of thoughtcrime. No one can ever be innocent. The subject must be prevented from noticing that this logic convicts and impeaches the operator of the kafkatrap!

[Emphasis added.]

Further adding to the evil of the Black and/or Liberal accusation of "white racism" in regard to opposition the radical policies of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid axis is that the "racism" is imaginary.

Those who level these charges observe a large group of people with whom they disagree politically and infer racism - either that or they just outright lie about it - because their own "arguments" and policies are so weak that they must never be subjected to actual rational discourse.

Race relations in America may well be getting worse since the election of Obama.  But it's not because of anything that Whites or Conservatives did.

The Problem With Liberals...

The Problem With Liberals is not just what they take from Karl Marx.

Perhaps more harmful is what they take from Lewis Carroll:

"Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things."

"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
- Lewis Carrol - Alice in Wonderland.

Because that is what is required to be a Liberal - magical thinking.

Like "Diversity is Strength" - yes, because if we can just import enough illiterate, somewhat stupid, non-assimilationist Mexicans - or better yet, Somalians, who add  Islamic ignorance and hatred, and may be even stupider - we will get enough diversity that we can beat everything.

Just getting started here.

Update: 23 Dec, 2011:

More "believing the impossible" by that great intellect Whoopi Goldberg:

If you say that this is how our culture is and then you send your child to a Swiss boarding school — you know, this is what happens with communism.
She concedes that communisim cannot provide services even to it's elite.
It’s a great concept. On paper it makes perfect sense. But once you put a human being in power, it shifts. We saw it in Russia, we’ve seen it all around the world. It’s nuts.
She concedes it is flawed for use by actual human beings, and has massively failed every where it's been tried.
But, I keep my fingers crossed.
But still, she believes. Because the 10s of millions killed by starvation and death camps in the Soviet Union weren't enough.  The 10s of millions killed by the Chinese weren't enough.  The millions killed by Pol Pot were not enough.  If you just keep your fingers crossed, eventually a system - a system  which she concedes is unfit for human use - will work somewhere.

New Default Assumption: Charges of "White Racism" Are FALSE Until PROVEN Otherwise

I've had it.

I'm through listening to Liberals or non-Whites - and especially non-White Liberals - accusing me and every other White person of racism againt non-Whites just because they disagree politically with said Whites.

This is CRAP.  This must stop.

I am sure that I am not the only one.  Blacks and/or Liberals have completely desensitized me - and I'm sure many others - the charge of racism loses its power NOW!

Congratulations, you intellectually corrupt losers.  YOU, seeking political advantage, have destroyed the power of your  favorite accusation.

From now on, when I hear White people accused of Racism:

My 1st reaction is "The ACCUSER is Racist".

My 2nd reaction is "The ACCUSER is losing some argument with somebody".

My 3rd reaction is "The ACCUSER must PROVE it."

My 4th reaction is "I don't care about slavery or Jim Crow now: It's over!  GET OVER IT!"  (Note: I have elsewhere roundly condemned Slavery and the CSA.)

UPDATE:  This applies especially to idiots who level the charge of "subconscious racism".

"Subconscious racism" is the last "argument" of losers.  It can't be disproven - but it can't be proven either.  It's not an "argument" - it is an attempt to choke off argument, through intimidating the target.  I AM NOT INTIMIDATED.

Never again.  I have been totally desensitized because the racism accusation has been so totally abused.

However, there is plenty of racism: Racism against Whites, committed by both Whites and non-whites. See:

About Me

I'm a 57 year old geek. I voted Democratic for 20 years, because I disliked the Republicans more. But now, nobody really speaks for me. I'm for Guns, for more correct government regulation of the financial world, against illegal immigration and amnesty. (in 2008 I ended up voting Republican - too many questions about Obama, and voting against anybody who voted for TARP 1.) In 2010 I voted a stright republican ticket because the Democrats have completely lost their minds.
